Supermarket Cart – Charity Awareness

December 26, 2006

This action consisted of three different child faces of ethnic backgrounds: Asian, Black and Indian. The mouth had an opening just where the coin to release the supermarket cart is inserted. Each coin would symbolically feed a child. Under the image, it says ” You can feed a child for two days with what you spend renting this cart. HELP

Yves Béhar

December 26, 2006

Fuseproject has proudly revamped the Birki’s garden clog, and the re-invented classic is ready to be put to use. This new ultra-lightweight, completely water-friendly clog has an EVA sole designed to channel water out from under the shoe, helping its wearer maintain a sure grip while working hard in the garden or anywhere. When the job is done, you just hose them off. The new Birki’s have no assembled parts. So no stitching, no joints, no glued parts – just 100% water-proof ease.

SFMOMA’s design series 2 is now open and features the work of Yves Bêhar and fuseproject. It is the second in a series devoted to showcasing emerging talents in the fields of architecture, graphic design, and industrial design – and it is fuseproject’s first solo show in the US.
Organized around six themes: move, step, touch, hold, connect, and expand; this exhibition includes designs for a range of
clients including Birkenstock, BMW MINI, and Toshiba, as well as some purely conceptual pieces that we hope will get you thinking… and dreaming.

Featured in the exhibit is our newest creation: the Inner Light. The organic shape of the Inner Light is created by its large ring-shaped form. An electroluminescent film on the inner surface of each ring emits a radiating light from the inside of the structure. The achieved effect is a warm, encircling glow which has to be seen in person to experience the full mesmerizing impact.

The Feel seating system is driving the world crazy. It is the hotest thing in the upper class luxuries gifts in the United states. A belief that the body´s position is a mirror to the soul lies behind the Feel Seating system, which can change its form according to the emotional state of the body. Animi

Desktop Architecture

December 26, 2006

The Autumn 2006 collection sees the launch of Hani Rashid’s ‘Desktop Architecture’ for Alessi – a range of uber cool desktop items challenging the more mundane designs of everyday office items we normally take for granted. The range includes the ‘Scud’ desk organiser, the ‘Stila’ paper knife and the ‘Trina’ pen & pencil holder all in stainless steel. To compliment the range the ‘Parq’ desk tray comes in three subtle colours. What’s more, with prices starting at just £15.00 for the paper knife this Alessi range won’t break the bank either. Hani Rashid was born in Cairo in 1958 and now lives in New York, where he founded Studio Asymptote in 1988. He is one of the most interesting exponents of the group of young international designers assiciated with ‘digital architecture’, and the designer of the new Alessi showroom in New York.

Falling Garden

December 17, 2006

Check out theis amazing “falling garden” by by swiss artists Gerda Steiner and Joerg Lenzlinger.

“The Doge (Mocenigo) needed a church so as to be able to have a monumental tomb built for himself, the church (San Staë) needed a saint so as to be able to be built, the saint (San Eustachio) needed a miracle so as to be pronounced a saint, the miracle needed a stag in order to be seen, and we built the garden for the reindeer. The visitors lie on the bed above the doge’s gravestone, and the garden thinks for them.”

Talking to Mary-Ann from Illu Stration

December 12, 2006

Mary-Ann Williams, the creator behind Illu Stration, was born 1965 in Cape Town, South Africa, studied Fashion-Design, Pattern-Design, Textile-Design, Interior-Design, Interior-Architecture und Hat-Design in Cape Town and Germany and decided to stay in Germany because of Apartheid. In 1984 she started using felts (felting) for fashion and hats. After starting with her own fashion and hats collection she later specialized in the development of textile products in the HIGH END section of interior design. She creates home accessories, bowls, lights, table accessories, kitchen accessories, living accessories, greeting cards, bags, carpets, hats and fashion and she is advising in interior design solutions. Her innovative designs find international interest. She brings structures and 3-dimensionality into the so far known 2-dimensionality.

I went talking to her,

Coxi: What was the biggest influence in your work untill today?

M-Ann: South Africa: You can learn of poor people collecting waste and making something new out of it.

Coxi: Tell me a little bit about your artistic path.

M-Ann:It was stony: I took all obstacles that were laid in my way to build a bridge, my way to success.

Coxi: Were do you get inspiration?

M-Ann: It’s a combination of hard work and what’s happening around me in the world of fashion, art, architecture and everyday living – and a good sense of humor.

Coxi: Designers/Artists you admire?

M-Ann: My Dad, he was real.

Coxi: How is your work environment?

M-Ann: Almost everything is white. Large windows with a nice view all over the town. 40km of forest starting behind my house. Naturally green.

Coxi: What is your favourite piece of art that you have at home? Old or recently bought…

M-Ann: My son – always good for a surprise. You never know what comes next!!

Coxi: Do you think these days people can talk about a global design culture?

M-Ann: There does exist a global design culture. Internet and all the digitalisation of images was a big step towards globalisation. The blogs do the rest.

Coxi: Are you living your ideal lifestyle?

M-Ann: I`m always looking for a new challenge.

Coxi: How would you describe your style of work?

M-Ann: The simple, sensual and poetry of my work makes it more than textile – it`s a state-of-art design that has its own purity of form.

Coxi: Do you have any other job?

M-Ann: My jobs: Fashion – hats – accessories – furniture textiles – interior design – interior decorating – colour planning .
